Building your list online can be one of the most effective ways of promoting your business online. Once you implement your plan, it will continue to send new subscribers to your list forever.
There are a few obvious things you should do to make sure that you get more subscribers. Here are three of my best tips, and three of the easiest strategies for you to implement in getting subscribers to your ezine.
1. Add your subscription information to all of your pages. You may find this to be obvious. However, many sites I have visited seem to think of their ezines as an afterthought. You have to dig to find out that they have one at all.
By putting your ezine subscription box on all your pages, it won’t matter what page your visitors uses to arrive at your site. He/she will always have an opportunity to subscribe to your newsletter. By not having to search to find the subscription information, you are more likely to get the person to subscribe to your ezine.
It certainly doesn’t hurt to have a newsletter page with a longer description of your ezine.
Write a compelling description to go with it, offer a valuable premium for subscribing, and you will get more subscribers.
2. Submit to the Ezine Directories. Once you have decided what the subject of your ezine is, and you have created a format, you need to create a sample issue. This should be in HTML.
Once you have your sample issue, you need to write a title and description of your ezine and submit it to the directories. Also, you will want to put a text version of your ezine on autoresponder, as well as have a subscription page link and a subscribe email address.
Once you have all of the elements you need to submit to the directories, put all of this information in a text file so that you can copy and paste as you submit.
The easiest way to find ezine directories to submit to is to search the search engines for the term “ezine directories”.
Below is a 14 page tutorial on formatting your ezine, as well as a list of ezine directories you can submit to.

3. Exchange Links with Other Complementary Ezines. There are several things you should know so that you get the most from this technique.
First, you can contact other ezine publishers with complimentary ezines and ask them to swap ads with you. Make sure that you look at the subscriber numbers for the publishers and give the publisher a fair deal in exchange.
You can find ezines to exchange ads with by searching this ezine directory: http://www.jogena.com. I have found this to be the best directory to help you find ezines that accept ads.
You will also want to ask the publisher for a top sponsor ad so that your ezine information will be seen. If you simply exchange ads with an ezine publisher without qualifying your request, you may find your ad buried deep within the ezine, reducing your chances of being seen and getting new subscribers.
There are plenty of ways to promote your ezine. What’s important is that you create a plan and stick to it. Get your ezine listed in as many directories as possible, exchange ads with other ezines, and always keep marketing. You’ll have a large list of new subscribers before you know it.

I am constantly amazed at the state of computer systems found inmost small businesses networks. Spyware, adware, malware, poorsecurity, you name it! Why is this so?
Small business owners often find themselves in a situation wherethey need to do everything. They are their own IT person, writeror even delivery person. Sometimes they have had their next-doorneighbor setup up their peer-to-peer network. Maybe they had acomputer person set things up then tried to maintain the networkon their own. There are many reasons.
What it all adds up to is you have a network with many securityproblems and poor performance.
Poor performance can lead to lost productivity due to lost dataor hardware and software problems. If every time you start MSWord it takes five minutes to open up, and you open it fourtimes per day, you could loose as much as twenty minutes perday. That is over 120 hours per year for just one application!
A system heavily infected with adware and spyware can easilytake this long to startup or shutdown programs, if it does notcrash frequently. Since adware and spyware authors do not careif your PC crashes, they tend to write sloppy programs thatcause problems when they interact with legitimate applications.
The security side can be even more problematic. Do you maintaincustomer data on your network? If you do, you may have a legalresponsibility to safeguard that data. Failure to do so couldopen your business up to litigation. We all know how lawsuithappy Americans have become.
So what do you do?
Do what the big companies do, turn the problem over to your ITdepartment and make them solve the problem.
You do not have an IT department. Well you could call George, the guy who setup your network in the first place. George is the”computer technician” who failed to setup your network security, when he created your network.
I like George; he gives me a lot of business fixing problems heleaves behind.
One of the advantages of having your own IT department is theybecome familiar with your operations and can quickly resolve anyproblems that pop up.
How can you take advantage of having your own IT staff? Hire anIT support company for the service. I know “outsourcing” is adirty word these days, but if you think about it smallbusinesses have always benefited from outsourcing.
Why contract for your IT support? One reason is you may not havea need for a fulltime onsite technician. If you only have a needfor a technician ten hours a week, do you want to pay for a fullforty hours?
To protect yourself and maintain a professional relationshipwith your support company always insist on a service contract. This contract defines the responsibilities of both parties.
Your service contract should cover the following aspects:
Service Level Agreement
This is the performance standard you use to measure the responseyou receive from your support company. For instance, my companytypically offers three levels of service level agreements. Eachlevel costs a different amount based on the timeliness ofservice. If you contract for a four-hour response, you areguaranteed a technician on-site in less than four hours. Atwelve-hour SLA would have a technician on-site in less thantwelve hours. Naturally, the quicker the response the more thecosts. This can work in your favor if you can afford to wait alittle while for support.
On-site Support
This is when a technician is dispatched to your location andshould be considered the minimum level of service.
Telephone Support
Telephone support offers your business two big incentives, quicker resolution and lower costs. Phone support can returnyour employees to a productive state faster than On-sitesupport.
This should be included in the contract. Some companies considerit an add-on and charge an additional fee.
Additional Services
Since the goal of contracting for your IT support is to provideyour business with the maximum benefit, for the least cost, consider including these additional services
Acceptable Use Policies Project Management Network SecurityNetwork Design and Development Remote Office Support
The more complete the services provided by your support company, the better off your company will be.
Here is a sample package that is popular with my customers. Ayearly mutually renewable contract that may be terminated onsixty days written notice by either party. Stipulating atwelve-hour SLA and limited phone support.
Included in the project initiation package is an Acceptable UseAgreement that has to be signed by all employees. This is aprecondition to finalization of the service contract. Anacceptable use policy defines the actions that may and may notbe taken on your network. This helps protect you from wrongdoingby your employees.
The way my technicians service our contracts is to attempt togive the customer a four-hour or better response regardless ofthe contracted SLA. Our phone support goal is to contact thecustomer in less then 30 minutes.
Since this is a service contract, my technicians, as a minimum, spend one entire day per month at the client’s officemaintaining the network environment.
This means ensuring all PCs have all the required securitypatches and hot fixes applied, updated virus definition filesand that all spyware/adware has been removed. These actionsensure your network runs smoothly, reducing employee downtimeand the support required to maintain the network.
In addition to the monthly maintenance, the contract allows forup to five hours free on-site labor per month. Any work carriedout beyond this time frame is billed at fifty percent of thecurrent billing rate.
The client is responsible for all hardware and software costs.
Special projects are billed at a reduce rate also.
Initially, a large amount of work is required to get theclient’s network setup efficiently, after this; few clients needservices outside of the contracted hours. When they do, it ismostly for special unanticipated projects.
Now you can give your business a “corporate” IT department evenif you are not a big corporation. I have seen real estate agentswho make high six figure incomes spending their time fixingcomputer problems. Ask yourself, is my time better spent fixingthis computer or should I call in a specialist and spend my timemaking money for my business.
I vote for making money
